What Are HEPA Vacuums?

HEPA vacuums use certain types of filters that remove impurities and particles from the air that passes through them. Depending on the particular type or brand of vacuum cleaner you choose, you many find your vacuum cleaner equipped with more than one of these filters.

HEPA and a heap of information

The acronym HEPA stands for High-Efficiency Particulate Air. The government regulates these filters and requires that they remove 99.97% of all particles greater in size than 0.3 micrometers. Those who suffer from allergies and asthma especially reap benefits from these filters because irritants such as dust mite feces and pollen get trapped in the HEPA filters Sealed HEPA or True HEPA vacuum cleaners have the ability to keep all of the air drawn into the machines from leaking out. Filters whose names lack the words "sealed" or "true" offer the same features as the previously mentioned ones, but not all air necessarily passes through them. In the search for that new vacuum cleaner, you might encounter machines that contain "HEPA-like" filters. While these filters function in much the same way as the others, they do not offer the same level of filtering. Because of the HEPA filters' density, the vacuum cleaners containing them must have more powerful motors to do a satisfactory cleaning job as the air passes through such dense fibers. You can find washable HEPA filters, but they can cost more money. Most vacuums come with disposable filters which you can order from your vacuum cleaner manufacturer or find in stores.

HEPA vacuum cleaners offer the consumer a clean, impurity-removing cleaning experience. These hardy vacuums use modern technology and careful manufacturing to leave your home or office hygienic.
