How to Use a Vacuum

Vacuums have come a long way in technology in recent years, and are now lighter, more effective and less expensive. When proper vacuum cleaning techniques are applied to your daily routine, you can save yourself a fortune by extending the life of both your carpet and your machine
First: Start with a clean bag/canister
Some older models still use a bag, but in most cases vacuums have a canister that collects the dirt. Before you start, empty the canister to avoid “stressing out” your vacuum. An empty canister often maximizes suction, effectively increasing your cleaning power.
Second: Adjust height
Most vacuums have a height adjustment for different floor types, such as carpet or tile. Carpets also come in a variety of thicknesses and height so more likely than not, your settings include more than one carpet setting. When moving from one room to another, do not forget to adjust this setting accordingly.
Third: Clear the target area of small items
Naturally, you want to pick up all small toys and objects from the ground. Also consider moving small chairs and furniture into an adjacent room temporarily.
Fourth: Turn the vacuum on
Now that you are ready to go, turn on your machine and use a slow, deliberate, back-and-forth movement across the floor. Take advantage of all those neat contraptions and attachments to clean hard-to-reach places like corners and against the wall. When your cleaning session is complete, simply turn off the machine, empty and replace the dust container, and store your machine.
